One of the biggest challenges today is being able to develop something that really engages the user. The way people interact with technology is constantly changing and the choices are multiplying every day. Everything is always just a click away...which means distractions are always everywhere (email, voicemail, text messages, podcasts, webinars, TV shows, websites, mobile apps - all it takes is just one click, and your audience has gone on to something else that they perceive in that moment to be more important or just more interesting). In our interactive media, we focus on creating relevant experiences that meet a need so our audience can see "what's in it for me?" Taking the time up front to understand your users is key to ensuring that the end result will be more than just usable - it needs to be appealing. The build it and they shall come mentality just doesn't work. We have found that integrating focus groups into the design process can really help increase the engagement factor.
Whether you are designing for teens, Gen X, or the baby boomer crowd....it’s really all about connecting with your audience.
