OAK GROVE TECHNOLOGIES PARTICIPATES IN DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION CAREER CLUSTER TASK FORCE

Washington, DC – Oak Grove Technologies has been invited to participate in a task force on career clusters at the Department of Education. This task force, the Education/Military Collaborative Group, will discuss ways in which to include the world of military careers into specific career clusters and pathways.

The U.S. Department of Education has established 16 Career Clusters. These clusters are groupings of occupations based on similar skill sets, interests, abilities, and activities. Each cluster consists of all entry-level through professional-level occupations in a broad industry area. As a result of the Perkins Act of 2006, many states are striving to develop programs of study supported by a career cluster framework. Currently, military careers are not specifically represented in this framework.

Oak Grove representatives on the task force include Denise Lawson, Dr. Jan Bayer, and Kriza Jennings. Combined, they have 25+ years of experience in the fields of occupational analysis, career exploration, and career path analysis. Oak Grove offers a unique perspective on the task force because of its work with the ASVAB Career Exploration Program. Oak Grove provides technical development expertise to align the ASVAB Program’s OCCU-Find career exploration tool with the Department of Labor’s O*NET. In addition, Oak Grove is responsible for developing and updating web, multimedia, and print-based materials for the ASVAB Career Exploration Program which is used by over 600,000 students each year.
