PRESIDENT AND CEO OF OAK GROVE TECHNOLOGIES RECOGNIZED AS VETERAN SMALL BUSINESS CHAMPION OF THE YEAR
Tuesday, April 01st, 2008
Raleigh, NC – Oak Grove Technologies announced today that President and CEO, Mark Gross, has been recognized as the 2008 Southeast Region and North Carolina Veteran Small Business Champion of the Year. This prestigious award is presented by the United State Small Business Administration to those who have fulfilled a commitment to the advancement of small business, including advocating the cause of small business in the legislative process, and volunteering time and services to small business interests and groups. President and Founder of Oak Grove, Mark was selected above his peers for his advocacy and expertise on Veterans business issues.
“Mark Gross is a true Veteran Champion. His participation in a senior level Advisory Task Force which consults regularly with staff and leaders of the United States House and Senate regarding Veterans business issues has resulted in a real change for American Veterans,” said William D. Elmore, Associate Administrator Veterans Business Development U.S. Small Business Administration. “Last year Mark was asked to testify before the House Small Business Committee where he strongly urged the committee to increase procurement opportunities for Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned businesses, increase training opportunities for veteran entrepreneurs, increase funding for the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Office of Veterans Business Development, permanently extend the Advisory Committee for veterans Business Affairs and provide oversight for struggling programs such as the National Veterans Business Development Corporation.”
Later that year, the House Small Business Committee introduced H.R. 4253 which was signed into law by President Bush on the 14th of February 2008. Many of Mark’s suggestions are contained in this new legislation.
Each year the Small Business Administration receives hundreds of nomination packets for these champion awards, and according to Mr. Gross, “To be singled out for my contributions is an unbelievable honor. I am proud of my military service and still feel an obligation serve in whatever capacity I can. This award is really a symbol that more needs to be done to support our Nation’s veterans and as long as I am in a position to do so, I will continue to do my part!”
